Check DSL Modem Internet Access Availability

What do you mean by Wireless DSL?

Wireless DSL or Fixed Wireless Broadband (not mobile or satellite) is a radio-based wireless internet solution comparable in speed and price to Regular DSL.

How does a Wireless DSL network work?

Wireless DSL network consists of base station infrastructure equipment and customer premise equipment or CPE. The base station infrastructure equipment is positioned at existing tower or rooftop sites that afford effective line of sight to the desired area of coverage. The CPE, which functions as an access server, is connected to an end-user's LAN, hub, or PC via a Ethernet interface and a out door unit which contain an antenna.

A point-to-point network is the simplest form of wireless network, but also the least scaleable. A point-to-point network is simply two radios in direct communication with each other. Point-to-point links are well suited for high-speed dedicated links, such as high-speed backhaul connections or large corporate interconnections.

Point-to-multipoint network is a shared link between a base station and multiple remote sites. They allow coverage over a broader area. However, each remote site must be within range and line of sight of the base station, thus limiting coverage to a single "hop".

Multipoint-to-multipoint networks create wireless mesh networks that mirror the wired Internet. They offer the most flexible and cost effective solution to reach a mass market. Each radio in the network becomes part of the infrastructure and will route data through the wireless network to its destination, just like the wired Internet. This simplifies line of sight requirements and reduces the overall infrastructure costs. Multipoint-to-multipoint networks are the simplest and least expensive way to deploy large networks.

Is Wireless service speed limited to distance?

Unlike Regular DSL, service speed does not diminish with distance from the network (in this case, not the central office, but the base station).

Why would I need Wireless DSL?

Wireless DSL is geared as the "last mile" solution for Businesses and Consumers who work or live in a location presently not served by Regular DSL. There is no need for telephone lines and cable, which usually means faster installation.

Is Wireless DSL the same as "satellite" internet?

No! Wireless internet is bi-directional unlike satellite solutions, where you download via the dish antenna, but you are also connected by phone line to the internet for uploading information. Wireless DSL solution eliminates the need for any dedicated phone lines, and therefore reduces your costs, while providing data rates much better than possible with modems or ISDN.

Is Wireless DSL service affected by the weather?

No. Unlike other wireless products that operate in bands that are affected by weather, Wireless DSL operates in much higher bands which is not affected by precipitation (rain, snow, sleet, etc.) and, wind.

Because the service is "wireless", is it as secure as "wired" connection?

Yes. The underlying technology was developed by the US military for secure communications.

Where is Wireless DSL service available?

Wireless Broadband Internet Service is a geographically-based service. Service not available in all regions. Please go to our home page to search for a Wireless DSL service provider in your area.
